Top varnish removal using a low polar, mild solvent mixture.
This charming portrait of a lady was buried under a natural resin varnish which had severely yellowed over time. Luckily, numerous tests showed it could be removed with a very mild solvent recipe. After removal of the darkened varnish and punctual future-proof (reversible) retouches, it turned out to be an even more stunning portrait, showing the artistic genius in the blending of skin tones and the depiction of light.
